“Choosing Simpson for sand testing lets us guarantee the quality of our products with confidence”

Ningcheng Xingmei Technology Co., Ltd relies on sand testing equipment from Simpson to precisely measure its bentonite’s properties.
Ningcheng Xingmei Technology Co., Ltd (“Xingmei”) produces premium bentonite used mainly for foundry sand. Because Xingmei constantly tests its bentonite to ensure it meets its customers’ specifications, it equips its large lab with the most advanced instrumentation to gather authoritative and reliable product data.
“Our product is mainly used for mid-to-high-end castings and we have extremely high requirements for product quality,” says Wenhan Zhang, General Manager at Xingmei. “We had previously used other brands’ sand testing equipment but noticed significant data volatility. That puzzled us as we weren’t sure if our product was having issues or if it was a problem with the test equipment.”
The industry standard for sand testing
To remove all doubt, Xingmei decided to install a wide range of testing equipment from Simpson, a Norican technology. With more than 70 instruments available, Simpson’s sand testing equipment product line offers the largest, most advanced range of sand lab technology in the world.
“We chose Simpson’s lab equipment because it has long been recognized globally as the best in the industry and it ensures we supply a stable, consistent product,” says Wenhan. “All our customers prefer Simpson analysis instruments for their own sand testing.”
Xingmei’s equipment includes the Laboratory Muller used to prepare mixtures of clay-bonded foundry sands. It emulates the conditions found inside industrial-scale mullers like Simpson’s Mix-Muller, Speedmullor and Multi-Mull.

More reliable measurements, better mixing
“The Laboratory Muller’s sand mixing effect is particularly good, saving us time,” says Xiuli Fan, Laboratory Director at Xingmei. “Because the lid on Simpson's equipment has excellent sealing, we can conduct another small experiment during the eight-minute mixing time.”
Xingmei’s technicians prepare standard 50mm x 50mm cylindrical sand specimens using the Sand Rammer, then determine their strength using the Electronic Universal Sand Strength Machine. The Wet Tensile Tester determines the tensile strength of the condensation zone created in all clay-bonded molds during and after metal pouring.
“With domestic hot wet tensile equipment, there will be deviations in each set of data during testing,” explains Xiuli. “Whereas with Simpson’s equipment, the data variation between tests is very small. The volatility value of Simpson’s equipment is around 2% but domestic equipment is around 7-8%.”
A Digital Absolute Permmeter measures permeability, a Laboratory Sifter and Sieves determine sand fineness, and a comprehensive Calibration Kit helps maintain all the equipment’s high accuracy and repeatability.

Repeatable results you can trust
“Because Simpson’s equipment uses the most accurate technology, it delivers repeatable results you can trust,” says Jack Yu, VP OEM Sales at Norican. “Simpson now also builds its range of sand testing equipment here in China, making it even more accessible and cost-effective for local companies.”
“Choosing Simpson for sand testing lets us guarantee the quality of our products with confidence,” says Wenhan. “Our previous equipment could not provide stable, reliable testing results. Using Simpson’s equipment provides more stable data during operation and significantly improves work efficiency.”
