Meet Anthony Pineda: Mechanical Engineering Intern

This summer, we were excited to welcome Anthony Pineda to the Simpson team as a Mechanical Engineering Intern. A senior at Purdue University – West Lafayette studying Mechanical Engineering Technology, Anthony is building a strong foundation for a career in the foundry industry.
Anthony's introduction to metalcasting began during his sophomore year through Purdue's American Foundry Society (AFS) chapter. His interest continued to grow through Purdue's Cast in Steel competition, where he helped create the Horseman's Axe, and attending CastExpo & Congress further confirmed that the foundry industry was the right career path.
"I've always enjoyed mechanical design, but learning more about the foundry industry showed me just how much innovation and engineering goes into the equipment that keeps foundries running," Anthony said.

At Simpson, Anthony has supported engineering projects by converting legacy drawings into SolidWorks models, creating new engineering drawings, importing engineering data into Microsoft Dynamics 365, and working with vendors on machining requirements for various components.
One of the highlights of his internship has been learning Simpson's master sketch approach to CAD design.
During his internship, Anthony also had the opportunity to meet with Joe Costabile from the Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF) alongside Simpson's Vice President of Engineering, Tim McDonald. Their conversation focused on Anthony's internship experience, the impact of the FEF program, and the importance of introducing students to rewarding careers in the metalcasting industry.
As one of the founding supporters of FEF, Simpson has a long history of investing in the next generation of foundry professionals. Supporting programs that connect students with hands-on industry experience helps strengthen the future of metalcasting and ensures the continued growth of technical talent.
After graduation, Anthony hopes to continue expanding his knowledge of industrial machinery and mechanical design while building a career in the foundry industry.
