As a leading supplier of sand preparation, control and testing equipment to the global foundry industry Simpson Technologies frequently supports industry initiatives to develop advanced research, educational or training facilities.
In late 2018 Simpson Technologies (Deutschland) GmbH in Euskirchen, Germany partially matched an investment from the UK foundry industry to support the development of a new National Foundry Training Centre. This foundry is part of the Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills (ECMS) – a collaboration between the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership, the University of Wolverhampton, Dudley College, the Cast Metals Federation, the Confederation of British Metalforming, the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers and In-Comm Training. Partners have invested £12.6 million (about $16.1 million) in the future of manufacturing in the region by opening customized, dedicated training centers and working with existing training providers to equip people with manufacturing skills including metal casting, toolmaking, patternmaking, metalforming, and foundry training, as well as mechatronics, product design and development and advanced computer numerical control. As a result of this focus on addressing foundry industry skills gaps, the ECMS has established the National Foundry Training Centre in the city of Tipton, West Midlands which has the only fully-functioning industrial training foundry and industrial pattern-making shop in the UK. The center also has a state-of-the-art sand laboratory, metallurgy and metrology equipment, as well as teaching rooms equipped with the specialist IT software used within the foundry sector. The Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills (ECMS) is leading the way in the UK with much-needed courses in the cast metal and metal forming sectors.
Simpson Technologies (Deutschland) GmbH provided 16 instruments to fully equip the sand testing laboratory in the National Foundry Training Centre including the model 42160 Digital Pneumatic Sand Squeezer, the model 42104 Universal Sand Strength Machine, the model 42105 Digital Absolute Permmeter, a model 42110 Laboratory Muller and the model PFP Mold Strength tester.
Simpson supports the development and advancement of the global foundry industry and is proud to be a provider of advanced sand testing technology to the National Foundry Training Centre. For more information on the ECMS please visit their website https://www.theecms.co.uk/.
