Highlights From German Foundry Days 2018

This year’s German Foundry Days 2018 (Große Gießereitechnische Tagung) was one of the largest, best-attended gatherings. The annual event took place on April 26-27 in Salzburg, Austria in cooperation with the foundry associations in Austria and Switzerland. The sold out industry event brought together nearly 800 visitors and 63 exhibitors.

As an attendee and exhibitor, we had the invaluable opportunity to engage with foundry leaders not only from Germany, Austria and Switzerland but also from the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Ghana, USA, and Romania.

Each year, the Specialized Program Lecture Series is organized based on three main categories: Iron and Steel Casting; Non-Ferrous Metal Casting; and Production Engineering. Some of the hot topics discussed in these lectures included:

  • Digitization related to new technologies
  • Electro mobility
  • Improved metallurgical properties
  • Attracting personnel to the foundry workplace

One of the highlights was again the joint foundry evening which took place in Terminal 1 of Salzburg Airport. This evening event gave attendees the opportunity to reconnect with long-time acquaintances and openly discuss pertinent topics and challenges with their peers in a relaxed atmosphere.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again at GIFA 2019 since the next German Foundry Days will not take place until 2020.
