Simpson Group Training: Green Sand Preparation & Control Course, September 14-15, 2006 |
The course has been
attended by personnel from foundries all over the country, including:
Here are just a few of the comments from course participants: "Simpson has done a fantastic job in disseminating relevant information that is both well-grounded and pragmatic. The concept of including fundamental theory with equipment maintenance and engineering troubleshooting was refreshing. A first-class presentation by a first-class company."
"The Simpson Green Sand Preparation and Control class was time well spent. The program was specifically designed to show the interdependent relationship between maintenance, production and quality departments for achieving quality castings. As a maintenance manager, I gained a better understanding of what defines "good sand", and the effects of "hot sand". The basic operation and maintenance sections for the mullers was very appropriate. I had not worked with Multi-Mulls before, and this session gave me what I needed to know. The entire class was very well organized, and your hospitality was exceptional. After years of working with the folks in Aurora by phone, it was a pleasure to meet the sales, service, and engineering people who have been so helpful. Thanks for this opportunity and a job well done."
"We need to get the best from our green sand preparation equipment; knowledge and experience are key elements to accomplishing this goal and this is what you get from the Simpson course. It should be a must on your training list."

Research
and Development: VF Drive on Simpson Mix-Muller at Grede St. Cloud |
Mechanical and control improvements incorporated onto installed molding machines can lead to dramatic improvements in molding rates. The ability to fully utilize the positive impact of these productivity improvements can be limited by the capability of the sand plant. Any increase in mold rate may result in a sand demand that is greater than the original sand system was designed to produce. In many cases, the options were limited to large capital expenses for new mullers to produce larger tonnages or a dreadful reduction in sand properties as a result of shortening a mullers cycle time. A third option would be to incorporate a VFD (variable frequency drive) to an existing Simpson Mix-Muller®. By incorporating a VFD to a Mix-Muller® it is possible to obtain an increase in production without sacrificing molding sand quality.

Upgrades: Engineering Bulletin #2006004: Matchblomatic Controls Upgrade |
Mechanical stepper switches have become increasingly difficult to replace because so few manufacturers continue to fabricate them, therefore B&P Matchblomatic® users are having a hard time maintaining these older machines. Matchblomatic machines that were built using Square D and older Allen Bradley programmable logic controllers are finding that replacement parts for these components have become more and more expensive. Additionally, industry demands are requiring that these older machines become more sophisticated in their performance requiring in some cases recipe control, diagnostics, alarming, and better means of interfacing to other equipment. The older technology is not able to meet these requirements. Beardsley & Piper has developed a new controls package for these older Matchblomatic machines. For more information on how you can upgrade your Matchblomatic controls, please read Engineering Bulletin #2006004.
